Frequently asked questions

What is the best airsoft gun for a beginner?

For most UK beginners, an AEG rifle from a reputable brand. AEGs work in cold weather, are cheap to run and need little maintenance. Gas pistols make a great second gun, and spring or HPA guns suit players who already know how they like to play.

Should I get an AEG or a gas gun?

Choose an AEG if you want reliability all year and low running costs. Choose gas if realistic recoil and handling matter most and you mostly play in warmer months, because green gas loses pressure below about 15°C.

Are spring airsoft guns any good?

Spring bolt-action rifles are the classic sniper choice: quiet, reliable and they need no battery or gas. Spring pistols are cheap but impractical for games. Sniper rifles usually need upgrades to be competitive and have longer minimum engagement distances.

What is an HPA airsoft gun?

HPA guns run on compressed air from a tank, connected by a hose. They’re extremely consistent and adjustable, and unaffected by the cold, but cost more to set up and you need somewhere to refill the tank.

Can I buy a black airsoft gun without UKARA?

Not normally. A realistic imitation firearm (RIF) can only be sold to someone with a valid defence, such as UKARA registration. Adults can buy two-tone guns without one. Our UKARA Eligibility Checker shows when you’ll qualify.
